CAPTURING AWESOME FOOTAGE WITH ACTION CAMERAS
Being marine observation enthusiasts, we get used to carrying bulky underwater photographic rigs to travel around the world. However it’s sometimes way too exhausted after repeatedly dives with heavy equipments during the trip.
Instead of carrying gigantic Mirrorless setup, we just brought GoPro with Underwater Kit all squeezed into a small hand-carry pelican case, which includes GoPro protective housing with lens adapter, camera tray with handle bar, pink filter, wide angle lens, close-up lens, float arm and video lights, to capture various marine life encountered during our diving tours.
These footages are all captured by GoPro with very few or none post editing, relied on proper equipment setup, basic photography knowledge and of course decent dive skills, the results are astonishing, with crisp images and vivid colors that truly blew us away.
We encountered countless creatures on many wonderful dives, there is no doubt about how beautiful and adorable these little things are, and it is a great joy and huge relief to be able to capture stunning footages with such a equipment configuration, compact, handy yet versatile.
Travel light, fun dive, easy life!
NEW HORIZONS (CLOSE-UP)
After installing the lens adapter on the protective housing, GoPro can adapt to 67mm threaded close-up lens/diopter to capture clear and sharp close-ups of marine life.
There are plenty of lens options from famous underwater photography brands such as Nauticam, INON, SubSee, Weefine, etc.
With these options, it brings new perspective to the use of GoPro for underwater videography.

GOPRO & INSTA360 ACE PRO FOOTAGE COMPARISON
These footages were captured in the Maldives, both GoPro HERO13 and Insta360 Ace Pro were assembled on the rig in order to capture the moments simultaneously to tell how different they are.
In this dive, the dive site is where they feed those nurse sharks, the bottom depth is about 15 meters and it’s quite bright sunny day. Visibility is about 10 to 15 meters in the beginning but getting worse due to too many divers.
In general, GoPro footage appears warmer color, more close to what our naked eye sees, more real but sometimes not so pleasing. The footage produced from Insta360 Ace Pro seems more vivid in color and contrast, more pleasant to see, but you just know it’s been tuned within the device.
NIGHT DIVE FOOTAGE COMPARISON
1. The benefits of using a wide-angle lens with action cameras underwater is obvious, which include the ability to obtain a wider field of view and maintain focus when very close to the target. In this way, brighter, clearer, better contrast and vivid images can be obtained by adding video light (in proper distance and angle).
2. Which device is capable of providing more setting adjustment functions that are similar to those of a digital camera, such as limiting ISO sensitivity range, can better meet expectations of photographers.
